Island Girl Dance Fitness Workout for Beginners Hula Abs and Buns

Studio: Cerebellum Corporation Release Date: 04/13/2004

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Hula
Great workout DVD!! Fun, yet tough enough to give you a good workout. Easy to follow, and you feel like you are learning the Hula, not exercising. The background drums get old after a while, so I just mute the sound and listen to my mp3 with island music. Fun, fun, fun!!!!

5 Stars For someone who hates to exercise
this is a pretty cool workout. I hate to exercise and I’ll admit I still don’t do it as often as I should, but this video is great. I was worried I would get a workout video where I would not be able to get all the way through but this one is great I can make it through though I’m drenched at the end. It’s a fun workout and you can choose from the 3 workouts if you don’t want to do the whole thing. I got this tape along with a Hula tape and they are both fun dances to do. Did I mention it’s great?

5 Stars Great Instructions, Fun Workout
I ordered this DVD off the strength of the other great recommendations for it. I love doing this workout!

Kili’s instructions are clear and easy to understand. This is important, because I am a terrible dancer, so it was great that I could easily follow along without any confusion. I worked up a sweat doing this, so I feel like I got a great workout.

You can see the ocean and another Hawaiian island in the distance behind Kili, which is also pretty cool. I feel like I got a mini-break from being in a colder climate with the great view.

The DVD has chapters, which also means you can go straight to the workout instead of being forced to watch the introduction each time. Overall, this is one of my favorite exercise DVDs.

5 Stars What a wonderful workout
I am really glad I purchased this DVD.. At first I didnt think it was much of a workout until I did it and the next day I felt it in my muscles because the were kinda sore.. I love it and wouldn’t give it up..It is really a very good work out plus you learn the hula dance at the same time.. Its a must try!!

4 Stars Fun, easy, entertaining workout
This workout is really easy to catch on to, works the abs, buns and shoulders well, and has gorgeous background scenery. The cueing, timing, and coreography is great, the instructor is not annoying at all, and you don’t need any dance experience to catch on. The only reason I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars is that the cool down seems to be just an extension of the workout- same moves, and goes on and on until you are just about ready to quit. Other than that, it is great and really fun!

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Different than other videos… Not exactly what I expected
This video is not like traditional abs videos. Most videos (8-minute abs, Gilad abs workout, etc) contain a set workout with an instructor leading you through routines. This video is more like an instruction manual on what exercises to do and how to do them. It is not something you are going to watch for each workout. It is something that you will reference on occasion prior to doing your own workouts. It does have good tips in regards to form, sets, nutrition, etc (not much more than what you find in a Muscle and Fitness or Men’s Health magazine though). Not a lot of advanced moves or things that I have not seen before. The video quality is not the best but it does have a lot of content.

Overall, it takes a different approach than other fitness videos and is almost like an interactive abs book.

5 Stars Very Informative…Great DVD!
I really enjoyed this DVD. Easy to understand and enjoyable workouts that I can do at home and in the gym. I like the fact that it also has a large glossary of exercises that I can use to customize my own workouts. The dvd also explains the importance of diet and nutrition and how it helps to carve your abdominal muscles. I found this dvd to be a real good package and explains that there is more to getting abs than just doing exercises. You get an ebook with this dvd which is jam packed with information and workouts. All in all a nice dvd, highly recommended.

5 Stars This dvd is great
The Program on this DVD is great. I work a desk job 9-5 and as you can imagine it doesn’t keep me very active. I was gaining weight, snacking all day at my desk and just getting depressed about it, this all changed when a friend recommended this DVD to me and it has proved to be one of the best investments of my life! I would recomend this DVD to anybody. No matter how fit you are, how in-experienced you are or how clueless you are when it comes to diet and nutrition to lose that stomach fat, this DVD covers it all. If you want a DVD that will show you everything from an effective ab workout to making meals that will help drop pounds from your stomach, this really is going to be the best 20 bucks you’ve ever spent. It did it for me and i’m sure it can do it for you.

5 Stars If you want abs..this is the DVD to get!
This is not your run of the mill Abs DVD that just gives you a workout to get on with. As well as the various ab workouts this DVD covers everything from Diet and Nutrition which is the key to getting great abs. Recovery, preparation, strength training and much more. Everything you ever wanted to know on how to get abs is in this DVD, very impressed…a happy customer!!

1 Star Not A Workout DVD
I’m very disappointed in this DVD. I wanted a daily routine of ab workouts. What i got was a video that is 80% talking without any exercises. Then when they do show the exercises they are clumped all together at the end without any instructions. Definitely not worth the $18 if you want a great ab DVD to follow.

The Firm Firm Parts 5 Day Abs Classic Workout Series VHS

December 12th, 2009 · Video

The Firm Firm Parts 5 Day Abs Classic Workout Series VHS

Firm Parts: 5-Day Abs offers five distinct workouts that train and strengthen the abdomen. A variety of instructors lead each segment and concentrate on specific areas of the torso. Crunches, reverse curls, and cross-lateral movements are presented in this uncomplicated format. All of the major muscles of the abdomen get attention here, including some great target toning for the obliques. Time-savvy exercisers will appreciate the quick and effective delivery of each set (ranging from six to nine minutes). Students have the option to do all five sets back-to back (36 minutes) or to complete one set for a quick fix. Firm Parts provides vital information on proper form while keeping the movements challenging. Beginners will learn about safely executing sit-ups in the informational segment at the start of this video. Several exercises are performed with the legs off the ground, and students with injured backs and necks may need to modify these moves. This brief but winning workout combines easy-to-follow moves with schedule conscious formats. Participants of all fitness levels will find a program that can tighten and strengthen the abdominals. Simply said: 5-Day Abs delivers crunches for the time-crunched. –Olivia Voigts

5 Stars easy to incorporate into your daily routine
I starting buying the FIRM tapes back in 1989 when they were fifty bucks a pop. I added this as soon as it came out. At first, I was disappointed — there’s nothing new in here; all of the 5 - 9 minute ab segments were cut from the long workout tapes I already owned. However, once I started branching out into other tapes, or skipping the FIRM total body workouts all together, I became much more dependent on this tape. It’s so easy to find 5 - 9 minutes to workout; I can do these right after I roll out of bed (even with my jammies still on), and the exercises are so familiar I can keep my eyes closed & still make it through them while I’m half-asleep. I don’t know that my abs look any better, but they sure feel strong — and I NEVER have the backaches that I used to have ten years ago. The best part about this is that it’s so short (and effective), it’s hard to find an excuse for skipping it. Two of the five segments require a FIRM “step-up box,” a stool used in the FIRM workout tapes. Frankly, anything in the 12 - 20″ range that you could prop your feet up on would be effective. I’ve got the whole array of FIRM step-up boxes, but on occasion, I’ll just use a chair seat when it’s most convenient.

I definitely agree with the ky reviewer that Stud Boy, our “personal trainer,” whose role is to introduce each of the five segments, is a bit much. He does add comic relief — My sister (who also owns the tape) & I have been known to call each other or comment while trying on clothes (using a Tracy James New Yorkish — I guess — accent “Remember, you won’t be able to see your firm new abs until you get rid of that ugly layer of fat.” I find him an amusing annoyance, tolerable for the fifteen or so seconds he appears on each segment.

I don’t have the second abs tape, but I’ll definitely get it. Although I haven’t done so many of the FIRM tapes lately, I do own at least twelve of them (collected over twelve years — ); I’ve discarded many, many, many other tapes over the years (Denise Austin, Jane Fonda, Jazzercise, Kathy Smith, . . . ). They were enjoyable, but I got to a point where I didn’t want to do them any more, and off they went to Salvation Army. In contrast, I’ve never discarded a FIRM tape — the early ones, in particular, really are good and for some reason, much less boring than other tapes. This is the only ab tape I own now — I used to have Abs of Steel ab segment tapes & a Joanie Greggains ab tape — but this is the one I would always do — and which I definitely prefer. Now if I could only get rid of that ugly layer of fat . . .

5 Stars Best Ab workout I’ve tried
This is ABsolutely (haha!) the best ab workout tape I’ve used! Just simple, effective, difficult but do-able ab exercises, some fitness tapes try to hard to be inventive… gimmicky awkward workouts are impossible to stick to in the long run. But this is just clean, easy to follow ab routines that are short enough to fit into you daily routine. I’ve been doing 1-2 workouts from this tape every morning for years and I’m still not bored with it!

If you want an ab workout you can actually stick to and stay motivated, this is it!!

5 Stars pretty good actually
my friend who has a perfect body recommended this video to me. It is easy, quick and does make a difference. I tell friends about it all the time. You can’t go wrong.

5 Stars A must have
I love this tape because of the variety in exercises. You have 5 different workouts for each day and it works. With a healty diet and exercise you will definitely see results in a matter of weeks if you are consistent.

2 Stars This tape annoys me
Okay, so the exercises ARE good. The abs exercises on most of the FIRM tapes that have them ARE good. But I still think it was a mistake ordering this tape for two reasons:

1. It’s just a collection of routines from other, earlier FIRM tapes, so to me it pretty much seems like a rip-off. Also, get ready for some OLD ones there - from the time when instructors looked like Kate Moss and even guys were wearing pink and orange aerobics clothes. If you ever felt like you didn’t quite enjoy looking at such things anymore - well, then you’ll find this tape a visual disaster.

2. Who is this Tracy guy, for heaven’s sake?! All he does is introducing the sets of exercises - half naked and looking as unnatural as a diamond ring on a homeless guy’s pinky. He’s ridiculous, but he’s actually too annoying for me to be able to simply laugh at him.

Altogether, this tape was a disappointment and the two stars are strictly for the exercises.
